King Michael of Romania has died Official announcement

His Majesty King Michael of Romania died earlier today at home in Aubonne, Switzerland. He was 96 years old.

The Press Office His Majesty the King is authorized to issue the following communiqué:

His Majesty King Michael I of Romania died today, the 5th of December 2017 in Switzerland, at 12 p.m. (Geneva time).

Her Royal Highness Princess Marie was at the King’s bedside.

Tonight, at 7 p.m., the Custodian of the Crown of Romania will address the nation.

A detailed program of the funeral will be made public tomorrow.

The King will lie in state in the Hall of Honour of Pelesh Castle, then for two days in the Throne Room of the Royal Palace in Bucharest. The funeral mass will take place at the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest. The burial will take place in the New Royal and Episcopal Cathedral of Curtea de Arges.

According to the decision of the Custodian of the Crown, King Michael I’s funeral will respect the tradition of His Late Majesty’s predecessors.

Tomorrow, books of condolence will be opened at Pelesh Castle, the Royal Palace and Elisabeta Palace. They will be available to the public for the next 40 days. Online condolences may be sent to http://www.familiaregala.ro/mesaje/

All those who wish to bring flowers or lay wreaths are invited to do so at the Royal Palace in Calea Victoriei, in front of the main entrance.

Sad news! the last surviving head of state of the WWII has died! A piece of European history dies whith HM the King. RIP
